US Condemns Antisemitic Violence in Russia, Calls for Accountability and Safety for Jews

The United States strongly condemned the violent antisemitic incidents in Russia, specifically in the Dagestan region, where rioters stormed an airport aiming to target Jewish passengers arriving from Tel Aviv.

Videos from Makhachkala airport showed individuals waving Palestinian flags, breaking glass doors, and causing chaos on Sunday evening. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed condemnation, describing the events as resembling a “pogrom.” He urged Russian authorities to publicly denounce the violence, hold those involved accountable, and ensure the safety of Israelis and Jews in the country. Despite Russian officials blaming “outside influence” and accusing Ukraine, Miller dismissed these claims as “absurd.” Russia’s embassy in Washington has not yet responded to the incident.
