Karl Rove Highlights Significance of Candidates’ Feud as Trump-DeSantis Clash Escalates for 2024 GOP Primary

In an appearance on Fox News, Karl Rove, former aide to George W. Bush, emphasized the importance of observing how candidates handle disputes, as the feud between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis intensifies ahead of the 2024 GOP primary.

Rove stated, “We learn a lot about the candidates by how we see how they trade blows. We get a sense of their character, thought process, and inner strength. It’s a helpful process where we decide whether we like them or not.”

While acknowledging that primary conflicts can sometimes become excessive, Rove mentioned that such issues are often difficult for opponents to exploit during the general election.

He added, “Primaries can hurt parties if they become bitter and divisive, but people expect to see how candidates handle controversy in a general election.”

Since DeSantis officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, both he and Trump have intensified their attacks on each other.

Trump has criticized DeSantis’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, even comparing him unfavorably to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. In response, DeSantis highlighted how Trump had previously praised Florida and mentioned that Trump’s own family had relocated there during his governorship.

Furthermore, Trump has continued to use the nickname “Ron DeSantimonious” for his opponent, while DeSantis dismissed it as “petty” and “juvenile.”
