Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is set to make an official announcement about his bid for the presidency in 2024. After months of speculation, DeSantis, a Republican from Florida, is expected to file the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to formally declare his candidacy in his hometown of Dunedin. To mark this occasion, a Miami resort has already reserved about 100 rooms for receptions with donors and DeSantis’ political team.
An invitation received by Bloomberg included the message, “Following the briefing, the fun begins!… All guests are encouraged to stay and work with the Team through the night of the 25th.” Although this event is not considered the official launch of his campaign, sources indicate that the following week, after Memorial Day, is a more likely timeframe for that. Nevertheless, there are some sources suggesting that DeSantis’ plans are still uncertain and subject to change.
If DeSantis proceeds with his expected announcement, he would become the most prominent Republican contender challenging former President Donald Trump. DeSantis has positioned himself as a youthful alternative to Trump, free from the legal controversies that surrounded the former president.
During a recent event in Iowa, DeSantis addressed voters, stating, “If we make the 2024 election a referendum on Joe Biden and his failures, and if we provide a positive alternative for the future of this country, Republicans will win across the board. If we do not do that, if we get distracted, if we focus the election on the past or on other side issues, then I think the Democrats are going to beat us again.”
Already, Trump and DeSantis have engaged in a war of words, with the former president accusing DeSantis of disloyalty and running against him. However, recent polls conducted by Breitbart indicate that Trump remains the favored Republican candidate, garnering approximately 40% support, while DeSantis follows closely behind with 33% support, leaving no other challenger in close proximity.
Until DeSantis officially announces his presidential bid in 2024, he cannot begin collecting donations. Therefore, he has reportedly refrained from revealing a list of endorsements that will be unveiled after his announcement.
