Texas Governor Accuses Federal Government of Breaching Border Security Compact

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, has accused the federal government of violating the “compact between the United States and the States” regarding border security. Abbott’s statement comes in response to a Supreme Court ruling allowing the Border Patrol to remove razor wire installed by Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The governor argued that President Joe Biden has failed to enforce immigration laws and instructed agencies to ignore federal statutes on the detention of illegal immigrants. Abbott emphasized the constitutional authority of states to protect themselves against invasion and asserted that this authority supersedes federal statutes.

The ongoing legal battles revolve around Operation Lone Star, Abbott’s initiative to enhance Texas’ control over immigration enforcement. While the Supreme Court allowed the removal of razor wire, other contentious issues remain unaddressed.
