Republican Governors Send Support to Texas for Border Security

The Republican governors of four states have dispatched law enforcement personnel to Texas in a show of support for Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star border security mission. Gov. Abbott announced in a press release on Friday that state police troopers and National Guard members from Florida, Idaho, Tennessee, and Nebraska would be joining forces with the Texas Department of Public Safety and National Guard.

Governor Abbott took to Twitter to express his stance on the issue, stating, “Every state is a border state under Biden’s open border policies. I urge other Governors to join our response to Biden’s border crisis.” He further emphasized that while President Biden fails to secure the border, Texas and its supportive states are stepping up to address the gaps created by the administration.

This is not the first time that the Florida Highway Patrol has been deployed to Texas. Last year in May, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent a substantial contingent comprising 200 Department of Law Enforcement officers, 800 National Guardsmen, and 141 other officials.

The deployment of additional law enforcement personnel from these states comes as Texas reports progress in its efforts to secure the border, combat drug and human trafficking, and counter transnational criminal activities. According to the press release, since the launch of Operation Lone Star, over 377,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions have been made, leading to more than 26,000 felony charges. Texas authorities have also successfully seized over 417 million lethal doses of fentanyl.

The press release further revealed that Texas has transported over 9,500 migrants to Washington, D.C., since April 2022, more than 7,000 to New York City since August 5, and an additional 2,000 to Chicago since August 31. These figures underscore the ongoing challenges posed by the influx of migrants and the need for collaborative efforts to address the situation.

With the deployment of law enforcement personnel from multiple states, Governor Abbott and his fellow Republican governors aim to reinforce border security and send a strong message about the importance of addressing the border crisis effectively.
