Former U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin Endorses Trump for 2024 Presidential Run

Lee Zeldin, former U.S. Representative for Long Island, New York, announced his support for former President Trump’s bid for a second term on Monday, April 24th, 2023. Zeldin, who most recently challenged Democrat New York Governor Kathy Hochul, tweeted that “The GOP is filled with amazing talent to save our country from the failed policies of the Biden admin,” expressing his confidence that Trump will also be the 47th President. This endorsement comes just weeks after Zeldin met with Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during his book tour, where he praised DeSantis as “The greatest governor in America.”

Zeldin, who announced the formation of the Leadership America Needs PAC in March 2023, aims to recruit younger Gen-Z and Millennial voters, as well as looking to reach more black, Latino, and Jewish voters. While there has been no official announcement, it is speculated that Zeldin may challenge Senator Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., to unseat her in the U.S. Senate in 2024.

Zeldin’s endorsement comes as former President Trump received his 11th endorsement from members of the U.S. Senate, including Montana Senator Steve Daines, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee. This marks Trump’s first endorsement from a Senator who holds a leadership position. Zeldin has called for a “real red wave” for the Republican Party and expressed the need to spread the right message to make it happen.
