Elon Musk: Tesla Considering India for New Factory Location

Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, revealed on Tuesday that the company is likely to finalize the location for a new factory by the end of this year. When asked about India’s potential as a location at an event by the Wall Street Journal’s Thorold Barker, Musk responded with an enthusiastic “Absolutely.”

According to a recent interview with India’s deputy minister for technology, Tesla is genuinely committed to establishing a manufacturing base in the country. This demonstrates Tesla’s seriousness about its plans to expand its operations in India.

In addition to India, Tesla had previously announced its intention to open a gigafactory in Mexico as part of its global expansion strategy. As the world’s most valuable automaker, Tesla is actively pursuing opportunities to increase its global output.

During the same event, Elon Musk also floated the idea of creating an educational institution that would have significant control over his votes. Although he did not provide specific details, Musk expressed his preparedness by identifying a successor to the board who could potentially lead the company in a worst-case scenario. He shared his recommendation with the board, emphasizing the importance of having a contingency plan in place.

James Murdoch, a Tesla board director, had previously testified in court that Musk had identified a potential successor to head the electric car manufacturer. This assurance was provided to address concerns raised by investors about Musk’s involvement with Twitter. However, Musk recently announced a new CEO for Twitter and expressed his intention to focus more on Tesla.

As Tesla continues to expand its global presence, Elon Musk’s remarks highlight the company’s interest in India as a potential location for a new factory while also addressing the need for a succession plan to ensure the company’s stability and continuity in the future.
