Bob Beckwith, the retired New York City firefighter known for standing alongside President George W. Bush at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks, has passed away at the age of 91.
The cause of death has not been immediately released, but Beckwith had battled malignant skin cancer and other health issues. Three days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Beckwith joined President Bush atop the rubble at the World Trade Center site, symbolizing resilience and solidarity. Despite being retired at the time, Beckwith rushed to the scene to aid in the search for survivors. The Uniformed Firefighters Association paid tribute to Beckwith’s sacrifice and described him as a hero of 9/11.
